The Illustrated Eden, when Art Transforms the Hotel Experience
On the northeast coast of Mallorca, the Cap Vermell Grand Hotel is no longer just a luxury accommodation—it has become a space for visual contemplation.
The artist behind this transformation is Antonio Fernández-Coca, an illustrator and university professor, who has created a symbolic universe filled with mythological creatures, Mediterranean colours and emotional messages.
All guided by one idea: to offer guests their own personal Eden.
A moving piece, and one for stillness
The project, titled The Illustrated Eden, unfolds in two main artworks. The first is a circular canvas displayed inside the hotel, where a fantastical creature floats quietly through a golden landscape. Surrounding it are fish and budding plants, evoking emerging life and inner calm. The message—“A quiet Eden where dreams bloom”—invites viewers to pause, breathe, and observe.
The second piece moves through the hotel grounds: a buggy illustrated with organic shapes and dreamlike beings. In this case, Eden isn’t just something to look at—it’s something to journey through. As guests travel between architecture and nature, they read: “A hidden Eden where time falls silent, the breeze caresses and dreams take root.”
Creatures that accompany, not impose
The characters inhabiting these artworks don’t belong to any traditional mythology, yet each holds a clear symbolic function. A red bull with flames, a sun-like figure with many eyes, vegetal and aquatic forms… All part of an emotional bestiary designed to guide rather than overwhelm. These creatures act as hosts to a contemporary paradise that seeks not to impress, but to move.
A paradise with Mediterranean light
Throughout art history, Eden has been depicted as an ideal garden—from Persian miniatures to the allegorical visions of the Renaissance. Today, in the digital age, paradise is no longer solely a religious promise—it becomes an emotional state. “This Eden is everyday, Mediterranean, sensory and authentic,” says Fernández-Coca.
The artist’s style—vibrant colours, curved forms, immersive compositions—blends naturally with the Cap Vermell environment. Light, landscape and architecture are not just sources of inspiration, but active parts of the work. This is art that is not hung on a wall—it is inhabited.
